What Does Spinal Cord Dysfunction And Disc Impinging On Cervical Cord Mean?
Hi, I was involved in RTA with an artic lorry 2.5 years ago. I sustained multiple fractures of the sternum & ribs and last week have been diagnosed by neurologist as having anterior spinal cord dysfunction & I also have disk impinging on cervical cord C5/6, please tell me what this means. Many thanks.
There is disc in between the vertebral bodies, these disc contains good amount of water percentage, when this content is reduced due to degenerative disc disease / post trauma, this disc herniates / slips posteriorly most commonly and cause pressure effect on the spinal chord and nerve which is passing through the foramen and causes symptoms like pain, numbness, radiating pain and so on.
In your case there is pressure effect on the spinal chord at the level of C5-6.
Hope it helps you. Wish you a good health. Anything to ask ? do not hesitate. Thank you.
