What Does Sticky Vaginal Discharge During Pregnancy Indicate?

I am 32 weeks pregnant, and this is my 3rd pregnancy. I am having enough clear, kind of sticky vaginal discharge that I have had to were a panty liner since I woke up this morning. Not feeling any contractions at the moment. BUT what scares me, is with my second pregnancy, after my water broke, I wasn t feeling the contractions for the first 3 hours after my water broke. The reason I know this is because I had gone to the Dr. And she had me hooked up to the monitor and it was detecting some strong contractions. Should I wotry about this discharge I am currently having?

Hallow Mumma,

I have gone through your well narrated history and have understood your worry.

There could be two reasons for this sticky discharge.

1. It could be bacterial vaginal infection causing the profuse sticky discharge. You had history of premature water breaking in previous pregnancy which also could be due to infection. You have to report to the Obstetrician to diagnose/rule out the infection and get it treated if it is present.

2. Just before you start the labour pains, due to the merging and opening of mouth of the uterus, there is always profuse blood stained sticky discharge. Subsequently the labour pains start. Unfortunately last time you could not perceive the labour pains which already had started. Please report to your Obstetrician. If you are in imminent labour, you may be admitted in the Maternity wards. You are just 32 weeks, so reporting in time might give the Obstetrician some chance and time to prevent labour. Also they might give some corticosteroid to you to help maturation of the lungs of the baby so that even if you land into premature labour, the baby will have good chance to survive.

Whichever is the underlying cause, you should report to the Obstetrician ASAP.

I hope you follow the advice.
