What Does Stool Report Of Infants As Pus Cells 2-3/HPF & Acid Reaction Suggest?
Dear madam, I have a problem with my little 1 month baby. His stool report is ...occult blood test is positive, R.B.C IS 1-2/HPF. Pus cells is 2-3/HPF, ACDIC REACTION, Reducing substance is ABSENT, Fat Globules is (+), colour is brown (physical chracter), Muscus is present (PHYSICAL CHARACTER), Epithelial cells are 2-3/HPF. So I want to know what is the problem of my baby? Please inform me.
Your baby is suffering from colitis (intestine infection). It may be due to virus or bacteria. Colitis is indicated by presence of pus cells in stool. There shouldn't be any pus cells, occult blood in stool. Culture of stool should also be done. Antibiotics may be prescribed to your baby. Baby should be given adequate fluids. Absent reducing substance in stool is the normal finding and it means that the baby is digesting and absorbing sugars properly.
Hope I have answered your question. Take Care Dr.Indu Bhushan
