Hello and welcome to HCM,
The interpretation of
stool test is as follows:
Presence of pus cells in stools suggests bacterial infection, abscess, fistula or
inflammatory bowel disease.
In 18 month old child, infection is the most probable possibility.
Presence of red blood cells (RBCs) suggests presence of bleeding at any site in the gastrointestinal tract.
RBCs can also be present in case of infection.
Mucus is present in stools in case of mucus
colitis or adenomas.
Mucus secretion can also accompany infection of the GIT.
Macrophages are cells which are seen at sites of inflammation.
An associated fever of 102 degree fahrenheit further indicates presence of infection causing diarrhea/
dysentery.
I suggest you to consult your
pediatrician with report for a stool culture (if required) and prescription of anti-microbial therapy.
Thanks and take care
