General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

In addition to possible arthritis of the joint, there may be injury to one of the many ligaments of the knee.

There are a number of different ligaments in the knee joint, for example, anterior and posterior cruciate ligament, lateral and medial collateral ligament. These are only some of the ligaments present.

You would need to be examined and have imaging done to determine which ligament is affected.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
