What Does Swelling In The Feet And Excessive Weight Gain Indicate?

I am female, aged 55. I ve recently gained some weight (probably about 15+ lbs) and my feet and ankles swell during the day. The swelling does go down somewhat overnight or if I put my feet up, but they re still somewhat swollen in the morning. The weight gain came over about 6 months (current weight probably around 180 or so. I m right about 5 9 ). I admit I haven t pushed really hard to lose it, but would that explain the swelling in my feet and ankles?
