What Does Swelling In The Wrist Indicate?

Yesterday the veins on the inside of my wrist swelled unexpectedly in about a two inch area. I m not sure if I injured it, because I had been carrying groceries. At first there was a burning feel to it, but I applied ice and this morning the swelling had subsided, but the are is discolored and getting lighter. Could this have beena blood clot of a hematoma. I am on Xarelto, 20mg. once a day.
