Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a filling done on #9 and my top lip and my left cheek are severely swollen. This was 3 days ago. It seems to be getting worse. I have been applying ice packs and taking ibuprofen. I m in no pain. I have had a lot of dental work done in the past and never had this reaction. Why would this happen, what do I do about it, and how long will this last? Is this going to be permanent damage? Cheri
The swelling can be due to either allergic reaction or deep infection in the tooth but in case if there is no pain then it is mostly allergic..
You can try taking anti allergics like Levocetrizine and continue doing cool compresses to see if it improves..
If there is no improvement then consult an Emergency room and get evaluated so that appropriate investigations like blood test and x ray of tooth can be done for further confirmation..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
