About two days ago I noticed my right ankle swelling and I thought it would go away on its own but has not just wondering what may be causing it. I just got out of the hospital a little over a week ago so have not been really active but if the swelling was coming from sitting so much wouldn t both ankles swell? I have COPD
Do you have Diabetes. If so, Diabetic neuropathy can cause swelling of the feet and legs. It may not be that both sides have same degree of swelling. One side may be more than the other. Another cause in a Diabetic for having unilateral foot and ankle swelling is 'Charcots Disease'. If you do not have Diabetes, please get a venous Doppler of the lower limbs to rule out the possibility of having varicose veins. This can cause swelling of the feet and ankle. If tests show varicosities, the best way to treat is by lazer ablation of the long saphenous vein of the right lower limb. These are the usual causes of mostly unilateral foot and leg swelling. It is best you consult a Podiatric surgeon or a general surgeon, who can advise the necessary investigations, find out the cause and treat it.
