Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 42 y/o 163# 5'9 I dont know my chol. numbers but I do eat mostly healthy. I had aortic valve replacement surgery in Jan of 07 due to bacterial endocarditis and have been on metoprolol 25 mg 2x's a day since then. I just had my prescription reduced by half to start weening me off the medication 7 days ago. I went walking for 3 miles and a steady pace and rested about 20 minutes before taking blood pressure and it was 140/85 71 and then i waited 10 minutes resting and it was 144/86 65. Is this anything i should be worried about at this time?
Hi welcome to HCM. This BP value can be considered a bit higher in your case considering the aortic valve replacement. This can be exercise induced. But you need not be worried of this.No drug or dose modification is needed in your case.I suggest you not to go walking on long distances.Preferably keep the walking distance to 1 and 1.5 miles a day only for 4-5 days a weeks.Have a baseline EKG and 2D echo of your heart.Continue with the same dose of metoprolol. Consult your doctor for further queries. Thank you
