L5-S1 inter-vertebral disc is dehydarated and displays lower signal intensity on T2 weighted images, Large posterior extrusion of its nucleus pulposus through radial tear in disc annulus ha scompressed the thecal sac and seems to impinge upon the left S1 nerve root as its exits the thecal sac.
I have been asked for some exercises and hot fermentation with some pain reducing anti inflammatory drugs. How much time will it take to heal and Can I do anything else to recover soon.
According to MRI report you have degenerative disc disease of lumbar spine. Degenerative changes occurs in spine due to aging and development of weakness in annulus fibrosis which allows herniation of disc.
1.At L5-S1 level, there is dehydration(loss of water)from the intervertebral disc associated with large posterior herniation of its nucleus pulposus through radial tear in disc annulus and it is causing compression of thecal sac and impinging upon left S1 nerve root
Treatment for degenerative lumbar disease includes physiotherapy or surgery. Effectiveness of both modalities are same. So,physiotherpay should be tried first. It causes strengthening of Para spinal muscles and it prevents further changes. Surgery should be the last option. There are also medicines like capsule pregabalin available for pain relief. Treatment can be planned after consultation with neurosurgeon. Get well soon.
