Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am taking Diclofenac for 5 days with some relief. How long can I safely take this med. safely? My doctor says as long as needed. Have an apt. W/pain management Doctor next week. This is for back and leg pain. Mri says disc 4 and 5 are effected. Any suggestions? Ps I am 77 years old and in good health otherwise.
You can continue using diclofenac however stomach protection with antacids must be ensured if needed for few weeks. However, very long use may be avoided as kidney related side effects can become likely. So acetaminophen may be used along gabapentin. MRI reports and film should be discussed with neurosurgeon to look for any possibility of surgical intervention.
Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
