What Does The PET Scan Result Suggest?

In 09 I had stage 3b non small cell cancer in my right lung, and again in 13 in my left lung. Had PET scan last Friday and told today I had uptake on lymph node in upper chest and on mass on left abdominal wall. Sounds bad to me, what do you think?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Unfortunately, as in the PET scan there is uptake in mass on left abdominal wall, suggesting the metastasis of the cancer to abdomen. Any spread of lung cancer beyond lungs is designated as stage 4 of cancer, thus shifting the level of your disease from 3B stage to stage 4 and hence, reducing the prognosis further.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
