I had my BUN levels checked and the results were a 40; however I did not fast and came straight from my morning run. Creatine levels were fine. We re=took the blood tests when I did not run before and did not eat breakfast prior to the run and they were a 14. Should I still be concerned that damage was done to my body?
Hi! welcome to HCM! Although increased BUN levels suggest impaired kidney function or it may also be due to a decreased blood flow to the kidneys, such as congestive heart failure, shock, stress or dehydration. However your creatinine levels are normal so BUN concentrations may be elevated when there is excessive protein breakdown or significantly increased protein in the diet, that may have been the reason for your elevated BUN Levels which has come down. Hope this helps!
