What Does The Following CT Scan Of My Mother Indicate?
Hi,
My mother had a ct scan the day before. It reads a well defined rounded hyperdense extraaxial mass measuring 3.1X2.3X1.9 is seen in the region of left high parietal parafalcine region and extending into right as well. A tiny calcification is seen within it. On postcontrast study intense enhancement is seen.
Rest of cerebral parenchyma appears normal in morphology.
Lateral ventricles are prominent. There is no mid line shift. Brainstem and cerebellum appears unremarakble.
Impression:
CT Studyis suggestive of -
A meningioma measuring 3.1X2.3X1.9cm in th region of left high parietal parafalcine region and extending into right as well.
Could you please let me assess the seriousness of the report and is it cancerous in nature? What does calcification suggest?
1.Meningioma arises from the menial layers, membranous layer surrounding the central nervous system. 2.Most of them are benign, few are with malignant changes. 3.The report suggest there is a lesion in the left parietal region which is giving mass effect on the right half of the brain. 4.The treatment choice include radio surgery or conventional surgery. But one can expect complicates. 5.The report seems to be serious itself, calcifications are seen in malignant and few cases benign. 6.Suggets to take needful action and possibilities of complications expected. Good luck.
Hope i have answered your query. Any thing to ask do not hesitate. Thank you.
