What Does The Following MRI Scan Of Lumber Spine Mean?
hi I have my mri scan my lumber spine shows spondylotic changes at L3/4 and predominatly at L4/5 level with indention of thecal sac and moderate indentation of the right L5 nerve root there is also narrowing of the lateral foramen noted, due to having a full hip done my back has always been very painful also have pain in my right knee and hip

1.The report suggests degenerative changes at L3-4 level, these changes are seen as age related changes, heavy working conditions.
2.There is thecal sac compression which is where the spinal chord is passed through and ends at level L2 and nerves continues below.
3.Due to the disc disease / loss of hydration it will compress / causes mass effect on the sac.
4.The nerves passes through the foramen bilaterally which is seen caused pressure effect on the nerve - which could be the reason for the pain and leg ( radiating pain).
5.In this case the treatment is exercise initially, followed by physiotherapy and finally if doesn't gives relief an operative / interventional treatment is given.
