Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi I have been having bi lateral sciatica for approximately 5 months now, previously only in the left leg prior to April, but was assisting my father in law, and his legs collapsed under him, hence I twisted awkwardly to get him a chair. Now the right leg has decided to join in big time, and is almost far worse than the left, also noticed nerve dysfunction in my right foot. previous MRI scan did show a bulging disc, left sided, however, not sure what to do next as it s becoming very disruptive, cannot sit/lie down hardly at all, so also disturbing sleep pattern. could you please advise on a way forward, many thanks. * As per my clinical experience, the MRI is indicative of severe sciatica with underlying nerve compression.
Depending upon the current life style, work pattern, various therapies are offered in this condition:
- best analgesic and anti inflammatory as tramadol hydrochloride with acetaminophen or others
- heating pad application
- ointment or spray containing diclofenac, linseed oil or camphor
- assisted physiotherapy
- postural adaptations
- lumbar belt support
- epidural analgesia with an expert pain management specialist
* When all above measures fail, surgery of nerve decompression or others are best recommended to cure it.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
