Hi I got results from an mri scan flattening of cervical lordosis.mild cervical disc degeneration with minor bulging of discs and early posterior osteophyte formation. There is midthoracic disc degeneration with minor endplate irregularity and a mild Kyphos. There are haemangiomata present. There is mild dehydration of lumbar discs Could you please explain these to me so as i understand. I have arthritis and i am on premarin hrt Many thanks samantha
What you have is age-related degenerative changes(spondylosis) affecting the joints and discs in cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine.
Osteophytes are overgrowths of bone edges & are the result of the body trying to grow extra bone to make the spine stronger.
Kyphosis is backward benindg of spine again due to degenerative bone changes.
The gel-like material inside the discs (cartilage plate between two vertebrae act as a shock absorber) i.e nucleus pulposus get dried out over a period of time leading to dehydrated spinal discs.
As a result, spinal vertebrae rub together more and often painful Haemangiomata is an incidental finding.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Tushar Kanti Biswas, Internal Medicine Specialist
