What Does The Following Biopsy Report Suggest?

Male, 51 years old. I had total thyroidectomy in may 2014. Biopsy showed a 1 cm hurthle adenoma. I received no other treatment. Unstimulated tg has been rising; 0.03 ng/mg after surgery (June 2014), 0.20 in June 2015, 0.19 in June 2016, and has risen to 0.46 ng/ml in march 2017. Negative tgab antibodies.

Is it possible/likely for healthy residual leftover thyroid tissue to release increasing tg levels three years after surgery?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Since, you have had total thyroidectomy, no thyroid tissue is left to release thyroglobin in blood.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
