What Does The Ganglion Cyst On The Wrist Indicate?
Hi! My 14 year old son is a childhood cancer survivor (Wilms Tumor at 2 years old). Despite a complete obstruction requiring surgery several years ago, he is is relatively healthy. During 2 different baseball games, he has broken 2 bones in 3 weeks (casts on both arms). He has joint pain in his knees, chronic foot pain (we believe a long term effect from the chemo), and has been extremely fatigued lately. They also said they saw a ganglion cyst on his wrist area when they did the MRI. This was an orthoped who does not know any other back medical history. Is there a red flag here I should be concerned with? Could the cyst be anything other than a cyst?
Ganglioncyst is an absolutely benign (non cancerous) condition and there is nothing to worry about it. It is a small swelling arising from his tendon sheath. If it is larger or causing pain or discomfort you can go for surgical excision of the particular swelling (nothing much to worry as it is a small procedure takes less than ten minutes).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
