What Does The Lab Test Result Indicate?
specimen-vaginal smear for cytology microscopy--the smears show mainly intermediate squamous cells. few superficial squamos cells and occasional squamous metaplastic cells in the background of polymorphs. many squamous epithelial cells are ladded with coccobacilli.please explain me above findings....

In my opinion, your pap smear report is indicating an infection- Bacterial vaginosis.
1. Squamous cells are a normal finding in a pap smear, but type of squamous cell varies with age which you have not mentioned. Presuming you are in the reproductive age group, there is no concern regarding intermediate squamous cells and superficial squamous cells.
2. Metaplastic squamous cells and neutrophils are usually seen in the setting of infection.
3. Precence of Coccobacilli indicates the presence of microorganism namely Gardnerella Vaginalis. A healthy vagina normally has many microorganisms; the most common one is Lactobacillus. This helps to prevent other vaginal microorganisms from multiplying to a level that can cause symptoms. A change in normal bacterial flora which may occur due to the use of antibiotics or douching or pH imbalance, allows more resistant bacteria to thrive and multiply.
As your results are pointing towards a shift in the vaginal flora with Bacterial vaginosis, you need to consult your doctor for an appropriate medication.
