What Does The Report With Grade 1 BPH Indicate?

Hello Doc ,



Since few days my dad was feeling weak , dry tongue during night time , slight pain in back . He went to the nearest hospital , Doctor recommended few tests like, CBP ,URINE test , LFT , Ultra scan full abdomen and ECG . all reports came normal . Even Ultrascan is also normal for all parts , but final result mentioned Grade 1 BPH . I would like to know what is Grade 1 BPH ? But doctor din't said anything abt it and he dint even gave any medicines. Is grade 1 BPH is not a problem to my dad ? Pls recommend what to be done next?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
BPH stands for benign prostatic hyperplasia.
BPH is a benign neoplasm of prostate gland.
BPH is commonly seen in males above 45 years of age.
It is characterized by hyperplasia or increased proliferation of glands and stoma of prostate gland.
Grading refers to extent of hyperplasia, grade 1 being the earliest grade.
BPH can cause urinary problems in future like frequency, hesitancy, nocturia etc.
When urinary symptoms appear, the hyperplastic prostatic tissue needs to be removed surgically.
Right now, you can get levels of PSA done in blood.
PSA is within normal range or slightly increased in BPH.
You need to consult an urologist for further follow up.
