What Does The Sonogram Report Indicate?

My mother, who is 83 years old, received a report after a doing a sonogram on her kidneys as follows: The right kidney measures 8.2cm and the left kidney measures 10.5 cm. Small cysts are seen bilaterally. The largest cyst on the left is in the lower pole and measures 2.3 cm, and the largest one on the right is in the upper pole and measures 1.2 cm. No stones, masses or hydronephrosis are seen. Impression: BILATERAL SMALL RENAL CYSTS. What does this mean? Thank you

Hi,

These cysts are small balls filled with fluid most of the time. It does not affect the kidney function unless it multiple and covers all the kidney. In your mother condition, it needs only follow up every few months.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
