What Does The Stool Report Indicate?

Hello Doctor, My baby is 45 days old. Her stool report shows occult blood positive and reducing substance present. Microscopic examination shows RBC: 1-2 and Pus cells: 3-5. What does this signify? Does she suffer from any gastrointestinal infection? If yes, what is the treatment?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi! Thank you for consulting with healthcare magic.

The stool exam of your child shows that there's a bacterial infection going on in the gastrointestinal tract. Treatment involves keeping your child hydrated and for some infectious diarrhea we give antibiotics. How is your child's activity? Is she feeding well? I suggest that you have your child examined for any signs of dehydration. The doctor will weigh your child and will compute for the dose of the antibiotics and oral rehydrating solution needed.
I hope I was able to help you.

Sincerely,
Hannalae Dula-See, M.D.
