What Does This ALT Level From The Blood Test Result Indicate?
Routine blood work prior to starting ideal protein diet....ALT level came back at 65. Is this serious? Does it mean I have fatty liver disease? Can I still do the ideal protein diet? Thinking this diet being low in carbs and sugars would be good....?
Hello and welcome to HCM, ALT level up to 65 is not serious. ALT is one of the liver function test. The value of ALT needs to be correlated with other liver function tests. In case other liver function tests are abnormal, then is possibility of some liver disease. If all other liver functions are normal, then isolated ALT level is not anything serious.
Hello, First of all nothing to worry regarding this results. Your ALT level is little bit high,But not that much high to think of serious diseases like cirrhosis. Up to 50 is considered normal for a healthy adult male.We suspect alcoholic liver disease or other serious liver condition only if the value is above 200. In my practice I have seen such borderline result in absolutely healthy people.Blood sample taken after strenuous exercise shows this kind of false positive results. I suggest you to repeat the test after one week,Avoid food supplements and natural products prior to test,If you are getting the same result again please take ultrasound abdomen to rule out liver diseases. As of now avoid protein diet. Please seek help from a qualified dietitian before taking any health supplements. Hope this information helps. Regards.
