Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter has had several kidney infections, a CT shows a 1.2 cm intracortical hypodensity in the interpolar region of the right kidney with postcontrast Hounsfield units measuring 18. No uroliths, simple cyst right kidney. Should she have a pet scan? also says Cystic focus possible associated with right ovary measuring 3.3 cm
Hello and welcome to HCM. As an Urologist, let me assure you, that a simple, cortical cyst is left alone. A PET scan is not indicated. Hope the CT scan films are with you. A better opinion can be given after seeing the scan properly. Check if the Ct scanner is a spiral,64 slice scan. Anyway, you should also get the ultrasound scan done after 1 year. The scan is repeated to see, if there's any change in size or changes within. You may send the scan to me, as a direct question, for an expert opinion. Dr.Matthew J. Mangat.
