Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi Doctor, A doctor has suggested me to take Zovirax 400mg for 5 days(3 tablets per day) as my HSV blood reports are as below: HSV 1 IgG: Negative HSV 1 IgM: Negative HSV 2 IgG: Positive HSV 2 IgM: Negative Can you please let me know what is this HSV and how this HSV 2 IgG: Positive going to impact me. What all care do i need to take care.
HSV is Herpes Simplex Virus. HSV is of many types of which you have been tested for types 1 and 2. IgM signifies acute or recent infection and IgG signifies past infection. Hence, your test results denote that you have had a past infection of HSV type 2. Hence, the doctor has started you on antiviral drugs to eliminate any dormant infection as the Herpes virus is known to lie dormant for years and manifest in times of stress or immunosuppression. Hope this helps. Regards, Dr Geeta
