What Does This MRI Indicate?
Dear Dr,
My MRI shows L3-L4 disc is dessicated & shows diffuse posterior & bilateral foraminal bilge without causing any nerve root compression. L4-L5 disc dessicated & shows diffuse posterior & bilateral foraminal bulge. Additional a focal right paramedian & inferior protrusion is seen at this level which intents the thecal sac & the right L5 traversing nerve root in the sac without causing comperssion. L5S1 disc is dessicated & normal in height. Diffuse posterior & left foraminal bulge of the disc is seen which indents the thecal sac & the left L5 exiting nerve root in the neural foramen. Mild facetal arthropathy is seen at this level on left side. Do you advice me for methyl predisolone injection for cure. I am suffering from lower back pain for last 4 months.& hip joint buring sensation. Awaiting your advice by return of mail.

1.Disc desiccation means the normal amount of the water present in the disc is lost and seen as hopointense (black) on MRI.
2.At the level of L3-L4 the disc desiccated but not been moved posteriorly.
3.At the level of L4-L5 and L5-S1 there is disc desiccation with herniated disc (slipped back) causing the pressure effect on the nerve root and theca sac ( spinal chord covering).
4.There is mild arthropathy - inflammatory change in the vertebral joint.
5.Advise will be regular back exercises will cure initially, then followed by physiotherapy finally operative / interventional. Good luck.
