Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
am 37 years of old and 15 weeks pregnant. I have done my nt\nb scan in 14 weeks 2 days. Result is both nt and nb is 2.8 mm. My radiologist say it s bit short. I little concern and want to abort the child bcoz it s shows down syndrome pls help help me.
NT scan should be done before the completion of 12 weeks (within first trimester) for accurate report. However, if you are suspecting down's syndrome the you are suggested to visit an OBGYN, get clinically examined & get repeat tests & USG done. Diagnostic tests that identify DS is Chorionic villus sampling (CVS). Before aborting the baby get diagnosed accurately. Folic acids to some extent help to prevent neural tube defects.
These days noninvasive prenatal screening tests from the expectant mother are done. Blood tests are done, this blood test can detect up to 98.6% of fetuses with trisomy 21. Amniocentesis can also detect genetic types of DS (between 15-22 weeks of gestation).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
