Hello, The blood report as you have described here appears to be alright. There may be a transient fall in platelets during certain viral illnesses .However, in view of the alternate day fever pattern of your father, a malarial parasite test is essential. This test is called Blood test for malarial parasites- both thin and thick smears are essential. Malaria is one of the causes for discontinuous types of fever in places that are malaria prone. At the moment I do not know if your location is in such areas or if there is a travel history as such. You may also get a blood culture test done for your father. There are other causes which can be excluded only after a clinical examination. I presume that urine tests are normal and that your doctor has excluded all possibilities of infections within organs such as kidney, prostate, abdomen, heart valves etc. It is also important to exclude the possibility of diseases of the lymphnode here. You may include your father's clinical findings and other test reports so that I may give you a clearer picture of the problem.I would also like to know- how high is the fever. To put it simply please get the following tests done as a first step to find out the cause of this pattern of fever
1. Blood smear for malarial parasites
2. Blood culture
Should you require further assistance and information please post the clinical details, other lab tests etc on this portal so that I may guide you better. Best regards
