Hello Doctor My 6.5 yrs daughter has been diagnosed with cylindrical power of +.50 nd +.25 Can you please let me know if this number will remain constant or can increase. Does she have to wear the glasses daily now? As per her doc , he says that this number is constant and she only requires to wear specs when she is studying or watching TV nd no need to wear them while she is playing or going out please confirm.
Cylindrical eyesight or astigmatism is a treatable imperfection in the curvature of your eye that leads to blurred near and distance vision. This condition is called astigmatism. It is still not known what causes cylindrical eyesight, but genetics is considered its big factor. It is usually present at birth, but it can develop later in life. It often occurs with farsightedness or nearsightedness. It may occur as a result of an eye injury or after eye surgery.
Treatment includes corrective glasses that include spectacles and contact lenses, and refractive surgery. Natural ways to treat cylindrical eyesight are rectus muscle relaxation, eye massage, reading, vision breaks, head tilting, and eye yoga. What your doctor said is true and your child doesn't need to wear glasses always buy only while reading or watching screens. The cylindrical power is constant most of the times. So you don't need to worry.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
