My 17-year old daughter's spleen has been measured, via ultra sound, to be 14.4 cm. Is this cause for concern considering that a month ago she had the nerves and diaphram around the ciliac artery cut away to allow for blood to flow freely through this artery?
The spleen usually measures under 13.0 cms. It is slightly enlarged at 14.4 cms. The reason for surgery and any other predisposing medical condition needs to be reviewed.Treatment for an enlarged spleen focuses on relieving the underlying condition. Surgically removing an enlarged spleen isn't usually the first treatment, but it may be recommended in certain situations when the spleen is grossly enlarged.
