Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello Doctor, My 19yr. Sister had fever for past 7 days. The report of serological test was advised and it says SALMONELLA TYPHI O Positive Titre 1:80 and SALMONELLA TYPHI H Positive Titre 1:20 , SALMONELLA PARATYPHI A Negative (serum) SALMONELLA PARATYPHI B Negative Can you please advise on what are the indications? What will need to do?
Thanks for the question. These are the tests for Sub types of bacteria which causes Typhoid fever.Usually Titre at 1:160 is considered positive for Typhoid fever. Some will consider even 1:80 as positive when associated with clinical features like Diarrhoea, fever& abdominal pain.Nothing to be worried about Typhoid fever as the usual treatment consists of Ciprofloxacin 500mg twice daily for 3 weeks, plenty of fluids & rest .Hope this clarifies.Wish you a good health
