General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
The reason why you are facing problems related to urination and sexual problems is because of enlargement of prostate gland.
As per the ultrasound report it says your prostate gland is mildly enlarged.
Prostate gland surrounds the urethra, the tube that carries urine from the bladder out of the body. As the prostate becomes enlarged, it may squeeze or partly block the urethra which results in problems with passing urine.
Since you are already encountering these problems, this needs to be addressed to at the earliest.
Taking medications cannot cure, and hence treatment focuses on reducing your symptoms. The drugs which could be used include:
1. Alpha-blockers such as terazosin.
2. 5-alpha reductase inhibitors such as dutasteride or finasteride.
Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is the surgery to be done for enlargement of prostate and is particularly indicated when urinary symptoms starts to worsen.
Since your enlargement is mild, it can be tried with medications first to look for improvement in symptoms. In case it doesn't respond well, then you have no other choice but to opt for surgery.
Kindly consult Urologist in this regard for appropriate management.
Wish you all the best.
