My mom was going through typhoid fever since last year hajj (pilgrimage). Though at present her body temperature is around red point in thermometer, she s not feeling well. Besides she becomes so tired by everyday household works. according to her widal test on serological report, the values are: TH(1:160), TO(1:320), AH(1:80) and BH(1:80). I m confused if she is still sick inside. She took antibiotic for 2 times. thank you
Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection caused by salmonella typhi. It is very resistant kind of fever. Widal test is done for typhoid fever. A single Widal test showing H and/or O titers more than or equal to 1:160 and typhoid-like symptoms is suggestive of typhoid fever. Confirmation of typhoid fever is done by blood culture because false positive Widal test also occurs in non-enteric salmonella infection such as Typhus, immunological disorders, chronic liver disease and cryptococcal meningitis.
Advice 1. Hospitalization 2. Complete bed rest 3. Ceftriaxone 1 grams twice daily intravenously for 14 days 4. Paracetamol 500 mg if fever occurs 5. Drink plenty of fluids to keep hydrated 6. Investigations – Widal test, blood culture for salmonella typhi, CBC, Hb% Thanks
