Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 30 year old female recently took ultra sound scan which says both ovaries are mildly enlarged and shows multiple small follicles in the periphery measuring about 4-6mms
Polycystic appearance of both ovaries.Mild hepatomegaly with grade 1 fatty infiltration.
What does it mean and what is the precaution i can take.
According to reports you have bilateral polycystic ovarian disease(PCOD).It is suggested by enlarged both ovaries and multiple small peripherally arranged follicles. PCOD should be confirmed by clinical correlation and biochemical markers like hormonal assay for PCOD. PCOD is a curable disease and mostly it is treated by medicines.Surgical intervention is required in very few cases. You also have mild hepatomegaly with fatty liver.Fatty liver is a reversible stage and it is due to deposition of fat within the liver cells. It can be reversed by diet and life style changes. You should avoid red meat and high fat milk products. Cook food in olive or canola oil. You should take limited salt in your diet. Take lot of fruits and vegetables. You should also increase your physical activity in the form of walking and exercise.
Get well soon. Take Care Dr.Indu Bhushan
