Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Shadow on the lung had an x ray weeks ago just got a phone call this evening to say I need to go down and pick up antibiotics and then be referred for another x-ray. This is 3 months AFTER my initial visit. Can I demand to get another x ray rather than waiting for another course of antibiotics especially since a shadow has appeared on the first x ray?
Your doctor must have told you what he/she what the lung shadow was suggestive of. If you were given an antibiotic , that would be for a bacterial infection. The duration of antibiotics depends on what the suspected organism is. If it is the usual bacteria a course of 10 days to 2 weeks is enough, but if you are suspected to have infection like tuberculosis, then the duration of treatment is much longer. So it would be best to follow your doctor's advice regarding the antibiotics and the repetition of the X-ray.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Noble Zachariah, Internal Medicine Specialist
