The maximum dose of
acetaminophen (
tylenol) for an adult is 4 grams in 24 hrs.
The frequency and number of tablets depends on the strength.
Coexisting illness (
liver disease, for instance) or potentiation of tylenol by concomitant intake of certain other medications will need dose adjustment
If you do not take any other medications or don't have any other health issues and weigh more than 40kg, you can take upto 4grams a day.
This means that you can take a 500mg tablet every four hours which will add up to 3 grams a day (well within the therapeutic dose).
The minimum interval between two doses is 4hrs. Do not take additional doses before this time period.
Tylenol extra strength, if I'm right, is 500mg/caplet. If that's right, you should be OK with having one tablet every 4hrs.
