What Effect Can Menopause Have In Case Of Addison's Disease?
Hi there, yes could you please tell me if going into Menopause, can have an effect on you, if you have Addisons Disease. I have been very unwell for 2 weeks now on top of a lot of health problems. I am getting worried about my apetite, weightloss and lethargy?????
Hello, Good day. In addision's disease you have atrophy or shrinkage of whole of adrenal gland. Adrenal gland is the major source of androgens ( male hormones) in a lady after menopause. ( Other source is ovary, which will anyway undergo atrophy at menopause). So if you have addison's disease, androgen levels will fall considerably and you may have reduced libido, loss of axillary and pubic hair, sometimes low in mood and energy/lethargy and perhaps change in cholesterol pattern. Weight loss may occur with untreated addisons. But not to worry, we do have DHEA/Testosterone in low dose in women who experience such symptoms. Please discuss with your endocrinologist. Regards Binu
