Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Is An Indentation On The Forehead Suggestive Of?
My 59 y.o. mother has a vertical indent on the top of her head running from the start of her hair line on her forehead to nearing her crown. It seems to be widening in recent weeks/months. She has had an Xray showing no issues. She is newly diabetic and has hypothyroidism, but otherwise has never sustained a head injury. We re looking for causes, diagnostics or whatever you can teach us.
An indentation there, if really present and progressively widening as you mentioned, indicates sutural diastasis (separation of skull sutures).
This is abnormal in a 59 year old, and can be caused by conditions associated with increased intra-cranial tension or disorders of bone metabolism.
If x- ray is normal, diastasis is unlikely, but if it is really progressive, I would prefer to get a CT scanning done, which can quantitate the gap between two bones, as well as find out any abnormalities with in the skull. Kindly discuss with your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK
