What Is Causing Pressure In My Intestine?

yes having trouble getting ahold of my surgeon - had a right open mesh inguinal hernia repair about 24 hours ago. mostly been resting on my back, tensing up a lot in thoracic and low back. forgot to ask yesterday what positions would be ok/nonstressful to the repair. As for movements they just said back off anything that causes pain. it seems to ache more if I lay on my left side, right side feels better. My question is whether or not my intestines are putting too much pressure on the recent repair of right side. thank you

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Open hernia surgery is safe and dose not have any connection with intestines unless the posterior wall of the inguinal canal was very thin. Secondly the mesh is usually put under the first layer of fascia and hence lots of support under it not causing any problem with intestines.

Hence in a normal course intestines should not cause any pressure on mesh unless they are distended with some problem. You may take a position that is most comfortable with. Watch for any pain, swelling, redness or so on and notify your Surgeon or at ER if such a problem comes.

Take the medications properly as advised. Take a laxative under the guidance your Doctor for free passage of motion. Intestine do not put on any pressure on mesh or repair.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
