What Is Meaning Of Calcification In Lobes And No Pericardial Effusion?
I m a smoker and have been for a long time. what does this mean when my Dr. had a CT SCAN DONE JUST A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO AND THE RESULTS STATED THERE ARE CALCIFIED GRANULOMA IS SEEN IN THE RIGHT UPPER LOBE AND RIGHT LOWER LOBE. NO PULMONARY MASS IDENTIFIED. NO EVIDENCE OF PNEUMONIA OR EDEMA. NO MEDIASTINAL, HILAR OR AXILLARY ADENOPATHY. THERE ARE CALCIFIED MEDIASTINAL AND RIGHT HILAR LYMPH NODES PRESENT. THERE ARE ALSO CALCIFICATIONS ADJACENT TO THE LEFT SCAPULA WHICH MAY REPESENT INTRA-ARTICULAR BODIES. MY HEART SIZE IS NORMAL. NO PERICARDIAL EFFUSION. WHAT DOES PERICARDIAL EFFUSION MEAN?. DOES THIS MEAN I MAY GET CANCER IN LYMPH NODES PRETTY SOON AND IS SMOKING THE CAUSE OF THESE PROBLUMS?. MY HEART
You shouldn't worry at all.You are not suffering from cancer. Calcifications in right upper and lower lobe are sequel of past infection.Infection heals by calcification and fibrosis.Calcification indicates healed stage and it indicates that there is no active infection.Calcified mediastinal and right hilar lymph nodes are also benign findings. Other findings are normal. There is no pericardial effusion means there is no abnormal fluid collection around the heart.
Hope I have answered your question. Take Care Dr.Indu Bhushan
