hi doctor, i undergo widal test and the result are as follow: salmonella o 1:20(+4) 1:40(+4) 1:80(+4) 1:160(+4) 1:320(+3) and salmonella h 1:20(+4) 1:40(+3) 1:80(+2) 1:160(+1) 1:320(-) paratyphi a 1:20(+2) 1:40(+1) and paratyphi b 1:20(+4) 1:40(+4) 1:80(+3) 1:160(+2) 1:320(+1).... pls help me what it mean.... kindly pls interpret the result. thanks
Widal test (test for typhoid)is positive.Single antibody value of salmonella O or H, > or equal to 1: 160 is considered as positive.However four fold increase in follow up titration is confirmatory for typhoid fever.
Salmonella O 1:20(+4)means it is highly positive in low titration.
In cases of typhoid,I suggest my patients to take injection ceftriaxone 1 gm I.V twice daily for seven days.Alternatively,tablet cefixime 200 mg twice daily for seven days can also be taken orally. It may take a week for complete recovery.
