Hi doc..m 24 year old wid a history of TB about 5 years back...I ve recently started experiencing a similar kind of chest pain on and off and so to clear my fears, I got my chest xray done...it shows a prominent hilum, which needs follow up wid the doctor as its result...what does this mean?
Enlarged hilum may be due to many reasons like enlarged pulmonary artery, enlarge bronchial tubes, enlarged lymph nodes etc. You need clinical correlation and follow up investigation like Contrast CT scan of thorax. Futher investigations like biopsy can be done if needed. Mass(cancer) is unlikely in your case due to your young age. Treatment depend upon findings.
Get well soon. Hope I have answered your question.
