What Is Recurring Sharp Pain In The Chest Suggestive Of?

I have frequent, sharp pain in my chest that can be on either side. It comes on suddenly and leaves as quickly. Once gone no movement I make will cause it to return. The first time it happened a couple of years ago I went to the emergency room because I thought I might be having a heart attack. They did some test and said it wasn t a heart attack and they didn t know what had caused it. The pains are becoming more frequent. They frighten my wife. Any idea what could cause these pains?

HI... Chest pain is usually classified into cardiac, gastrointestinal, respiratory, musculoskeletal and other causes.
1.If pain is due to cardiac cause, it will be left side of chest or retrosternal, radiating to left arm, associated with sweating and increases on work and relieves on rest.
2.If it is due to respiratory cause chest pain will increase on deep breathing and patient can give cough history.
3.If it is due ti gatrointestinal cause pain varies with food intake.
BASED ON HISTORY i think you have musculoskeletal cause of chest pain which will be relieved by drugs like NSAIDS such as diclofenac
