What Is Retraction Pockets In The Ear Drum?

Hi , I am suffreing from Retarcted pocket in my eardrum, doctor suggest me to go for the surgery for that, I already lost some hearing in my ear, I am working software professional , Doctor asked me that due to continous cold( due to my nose problem, dont know extactly what he said) due to that problem occurs so first he will do nose operation and than will do EAr surgery , I want to understand how critical is the surgery and is it necessary to go for surgery ? Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM team.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have retraction pockets in the ear drum retraction of ear drum which is due to dysfunction of eustachian tube which will give rise to negative pressure in middle ear which results in retraction of ear drum. I would suggest you to take antibiotic ear drops such as Otogesic ear drops. Take combination of anti-inflammatory medication along with antibiotics for ear infection. I would suggest you to follow these instructions first and get tympanogram done to check level of infection. Surgery is not much critical as it is minor operative procedure. You should go for it after proper examination.
