I have pain in my left lower back. I have been to back dr. And a general MD has prescribed 300 mg. of Gabapentin 3 times a day for Neuritis. My drugest has told me I can take up to 3200 mg a day. But I would like a better diagonis as to what my problem is. Thank you James E. Welker

Hi, Before I can give a helpful answer , I might need to know certain things.
1. Whether you have a history of fall or injury
2. Whether you have any numbness or tingling in the thighs or legs.
3. Whether you had any skin blisters in that area
4. Does the pain worsen on coughing or sneezing or straining.
Low back ache might be due to disc prolapse, muscle strain, vertebral diseases, etc. So, If it persists for long you might need to investigate the cause using an MRI or just an X - ray. Gabapentin relieves pain due to nerve involvement. But before declaring you have a nerve related pain, you have to diagnose the cause for which you might need to discuss with your doctor. Thank You!!
