What Is The Bald Spot That Is Increasing In Size And Is Dry And Hurting?

my 6 year old son literally over night woke up with a bald spot first it was about the size of a quarter maybe a little smaller now about a week later its about the size of 50 cent piece and its really dry when I put lotion on it he says it hurts what is it and what should I do?

I would keep a possibility of Alopecia areata(focal type). Some patients with Alopecia areata complain of pain or burning sensation at the site of hair loss(Trichodyna).

I would advice that you see a dermatologist for a confirmatory diagnosis. Various treatment options available in children are:
-Minoxidil solution
-Topical steroid
-Topical Anthralin.


All of them have good efficacy in this kind of hair loss. Your dermatologist might prescribe a topical lotion or topical cream depending upon his/her experience with the usage.
