Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m currently taking Citalopram. I purchased some Delsym, but did not take it because I saw the warning labels concerning interactions with Delsym and SSRIs. What can I take for my cough while on Citalopram? I also cannot take many of the cough medicines out there, because they contain nasal decongestants and I don t do well with nasal decongestants.
You are current in stating that it would not be safe for you to use citalopram and delsym together. Delsym contains dextromethorphan only, you cannot use any cough and cold medications with this ingredient.
You would have to use another cough suppressant. Some cough medications use codeine as a cough suppressant. You can consider using one of these.
I hope this helps
