Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife was told she has some bone death in her knee. Her orthopedist told her it was probably a result of the hydrocortisone she takes but in a subsequent appointment her endocrinologist told her that would not be the case. She's afraid it might be cancer but doesn't have another appointment with her orthopedist for a month. What is likely the primary cause?
I think that your wife suffer from knee osteoarthritis. This is a degenerative bone disease that is manifested with bone degradation, more exactly articular cartilage. In this case we have to deal with mechanic damage of cartilage surface, with unsufficient repair from the articulation. This is the primary cause.
Other factors are: misalignments of bones caused by congenital or pathogenic causes, mechanical injury, excess body weight, loss of strength in the muscles supporting a joint and impairment of peripheral nerves. the impairment of peripheral nerves cause sudden or uncoordinated movements.
Your wife should use painkillers to relieve the pain. She also should change her lifestyle and she should be more active in her daily life and physic exercises are good for her.
Regards, Dr. Behar.
